LONGMEADOW — Board of Assessors approves motor vehicle and real estate abatement hearing. The Board unanimously approved March motor vehicle abatements of $4,579.66, presented by Principal Assessor Maria T. Cataldo.

Members Michael McLane, Anthony Martin, and Augusto Bairos also heard arguments on four residential and commercial properties; homeowner Joshua Rickman criticized the Assessors' Office for lack of transparency and inconsistent valuation practices, while other applicants disputed specific assessment methodologies. The Board unanimously rejected Rickman's request to shift meeting times to accommodate working residents. Cyclical property inspections of approximately 600 homes are scheduled to begin in May, with notification postcards to be mailed April 1.
