Board of Health eliminates two permit types

Board of Health · Meeting of January 6, 2026

Longmeadow Board of Health eliminates two permit types. The board unanimously approved discontinuing the methyl wood alcohol permit and milk permit, which generate minimal revenue and are no longer required by state law. Health Director Ryan Paxton noted approximately five wood alcohol permits currently circulate at $1 each and no milk producers operate in Longmeadow.

The board also discussed sustaining the Eastern Hampden Shared Public Health Services, a regional arrangement serving four communities, if grant funding ends beyond fiscal year 2026, and approved expanding the public health nurse's role as a community health educator.
