Conservation Commission approves boulders at Gasek Farm, addresses illegal dumping

Longmeadow Conservation Commission approves boulders at Gasek Farm and Amtrak herbicide permit. The Commission voted 6-1 to purchase four boulders for approximately $300 to place at Gasek Farm's southwestern corner to discourage vehicle access. Chair John Bresnahan noted Police and Fire Departments confirmed comfort with the placement, though Member Richard Bontempo opposed, citing emergency access concerns.
The Commission unanimously approved an herbicide-application permit (RDA #2026-03) for Amtrak, allowing annual spraying along the rail corridor at least 10 feet from resource areas. The Commission also voted 6-0 to approve boulder placement at Wolf Swamp Conservation Area pending police and fire approval to address ongoing illegal dumping.
