DEI Committee Discusses Community Work, Structural Issues
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee · Meeting of February 26, 2026
Longmeadow DEI Committee approved November meeting minutes unanimously and discussed ongoing partnerships with community groups including the Longmeadow Antiracism Coalition and PACT. Chair Tammye Erb, Clerk Linda Preston, Saul Finestone, Dr. Ronnie Leavitt, and Becky Lindsay were present; the committee has one vacancy.
New Select Board liaison Shelly Maynard-DeWolf joined the meeting, and the committee heard from applicant Matthew Delson, an autistic disability-rights advocate. The committee discussed disability-inclusive language, a Western New England University initiative to update accessible-signage symbols, and planned to invite Erin Murray to advance the project. Members expressed concerns that immigrant and Muslim neighbors feel unsafe and discussed working with the Select Board to end any local ICE-related contracts in coordination with the police chief.
