Longmeadow Finance Committee declines to recommend fiber network bond
Finance Committee · Meeting of April 6, 2026
LONGMEADOW — Finance Committee rejects fiber network funding on governance, financial analysis concerns. The committee voted 6-1 against recommending Article 7, an $8,615,000 bonding authorization for the town's Municipal Light Plant and fiber optic network project, citing insufficient financial vetting, unclear rate-setting methodology, and credit-rating risk. Finance Committee Chair Erica Weida and five colleagues cited seven specific concerns in their recommendation opinion, including unresolved debt-service implications and violation of the town's debt policy.
Only Clerk Adrian Moniz voted in favor. The committee unanimously approved 23 other warrant articles, including the $93.4 million FY2027 operating budget and $450,000 in supplemental snow and ice removal funding for harsh winter conditions.
