Parks Commission discusses youth programs and spring field access challenges

Parks and Recreation Commission · Meeting of March 9, 2026

LONGMEADOW — The Parks and Recreation Commission heard reports on thriving youth programs while grappling with spring field space constraints. The Youth Track program reported 240 participants in 2025 with strong volunteer support, while Youth Cross Country reported 90 to 100 participants, though both face facility challenges. Spring soccer programs are seeking additional field space, with Director Jarvis recommending the Soccer Association contact the JCC to explore options.

The Commission also discussed a recommended moratorium on renting field space to for-profit organizations until Williams Field returns to use, with formal consideration at the April 13 meeting.
