Recycling Commission backs cardboard enforcement measures

Longmeadow Recycling Commission unanimously approves enforcement measures to combat persistent cardboard overflow. The commission agreed by consensus to recommend signage changes, require identification checks for cardboard deliveries lacking town decals, and explore a secondary roll-off location during winter months. Holiday-season usage has caused both the 30-cubic-yard roll-off and 8-cubic-yard dumpster to fill early on Saturdays, turning away residents.
Members discussed hiring a part-time recycling coordinator, modeled on East Longmeadow's program, to manage education, grants, and enforcement across 290 active cart-swap requests. The bulky rigid plastics recycling program will continue with minimal additional cost, with expanded vendor acceptance of plastic materials.
