Tree Committee speeds Arboretum work on Town Green

Tree Committee · Meeting of May 19, 2026

LONGMEADOW — Tree Committee advances Arboretum planning on Town Green and Tree Bylaw revision. The Committee approved next-steps planning for the Arboretum, requiring a minimum of 25 tree species; funding was secured at Town Meeting but cannot be expended until the next fiscal year. Chair Kathryn Kucab requested a list of next steps, with Member Lou Kornet working to secure support and education outreach.

The Committee is revising the Tree Bylaw with an emphasis on the tree hearing and appeal process; Select Board liaison Dan Zwirko has been asked to review the draft and attend the June meeting. Tree Warden Leah Wallner reported 40 trees installed along Maple Road and 100 additional trees planned for June planting.
