Tree Warden Denies Removal of Two Pin Oaks Following Public Objections

LONGMEADOW — Tree Warden Leah Wallner denies removal of two pin oaks amid construction dispute. The two trees, measuring 28 and 29 inches in diameter at 32 Longmeadow Street, were proposed for removal by MassDOT due to construction work that would cause significant root damage within two to five feet of the trees. Following a public hearing and receipt of two objection emails from residents, Tree Warden Wallner denied the removal.
DPW Director Sean Van Deusen noted that design adjustments to accommodate the trees would cost thousands of dollars and delay the project by multiple years. The Select Board will review the objections at its March 23 meeting.
