Zoning Board approves height exception for consolidated middle school

Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of March 24, 2026

Longmeadow Zoning Board unanimously approves height variance for consolidated middle school. The board granted a special permit allowing the proposed Williams-Glenbrook Middle School at 410 Williams Street to reach 40 feet 9 inches, exceeding the town's 35-foot height limit to accommodate gymnasium and auditorium construction standards. Project consultant Jean Christy of Tighe and Bond explained the height is standard for these facility types to meet seating, ventilation, and structural requirements.

The project will require site and design review from the Planning Board and permits from the Department of Public Works for road opening and stormwater work.
