LONGMEADOW — The Longmeadow Select Board voted 5-0 to waive the town's winter work moratorium so Eversource can start gas main replacement on Birchwood Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue as early as next week, ahead of a major road reconstruction this spring. Member Dan Zwirko made the motion, citing DPW permit conditions on hours, traffic plans and paving. Eversource's Greg Gallant said crews are replacing "leak-prone pipe" but won't touch individual service lines until warmer weather returns.
The board also interviewed 15 candidates for a new seven-member Future Building Use Task Force overseeing Town Hall, Old Town Hall and the Community House, and Town Manager Lyn Simmons announced a $6.94 million contract to Ludlow Construction for the Western Drive water main and sewer project, set to begin in April and overlap with the two-season Longmeadow Street "L Project."
