Select Board · Meeting of May 4, 2026
Longmeadow board orders euthanasia for stray pit bull after three bites. The Select Board voted 5-0 Monday to declare a 2-year-old pit bull named Sassy a dangerous dog and order her humanely euthanized after she attacked three people in two incidents on Wimbleton Drive, including neighbor Margaret Scala, who received 14 stitches. No one, including a caretaker named Lynn Rivera, could give the board a responsible owner; Rivera said she had been watching the dog for her incarcerated brother.
Animal Control Officer Marty-Lee Caramante, a 20-year veteran, said she had "never asked for a dog to be euthanized" but saw no other option. The board also voted to delegate its Town Meeting presentation on the $27 million municipal fiber project, $8.1 million of which is tax-funded, to Ben Brown ahead of the May 12 vote.
